Peter Archer
Peter Archer makes one-off pieces in temperate hardwoods. His vessels and bowls are stained, carved and finely finished using oil and wax. Peter’s beautiful creations will be available in The Pool House Gallery as part of the ‘From Where I’m Standing’ exhibition which takes place for the duration of Fresh Air Sculpture 2019.
Peter says, “The environment which one works in, whether it’s inner city or deep rural, subtly affects the work one does. My workshops have been in rural locations for the last 20 years. For the first 15 years in a village and for the past 5 in a more isolated setting. My work evolves through the process of making, with each bowl influencing the next. Each piece is unique although there are thematic similarities between them”.
Peter uses only sustainable temperate hardwoods and prefers to source the timber locally whenever possible. Sycamore is an ideal timber for the turning, staining and carving, and, in tree form at least, is very common.
